Christ committed suicide?

If I were sitting on a bench, and heavy rain started pouring, and a flood commences.. I would say anyone who sits there and drowns without trying to save themselves is committing suicide. Especially if they had a button that could be pressed that magically stopped the flood from happening. I guess I just want to hear your thoughts: if Christ did nothing to stop his death, but had the power to do so, was he not committing suicide? And if he did commit suicide, wouldn't this be considered a sin, and thus make Christs final moments no longer sinless and nullify the doctrine of atonement? Even if you don't consider it suicide, I would still contend that INACTION is considered a sin in LDS doctrine, and Christ is clearly guilty of this in the Biblical narrative. Anyway just some thoughts... what do you think?

  1. Perhaps giving your life for someone else is not considered suicide? If so, we all should have given our lives for someone else before the age of 8, and -- SHAZZAM!! We would have won a free trip to the Celestial Kingdom. For those that don't know, Mormons teach that children who die before the age of accountability are guaranteed entrance into the Celestial Kingdom. Why aren't we teaching this glorious truth to our 3 year olds? Mormons are silly! LOL

  2. Haha yep.. I was talking to someone about the "Christ committed suicide" thing and they actually came up with a pretty good explanation according to LDS doctrine:
Murder is not a sin. Because
if God commands it, then it is ok. So if God commanded Christ to die
then he did not commit a sin. Sounds good I spose. But then he
went on to explain that this explanation brings on a whole other
problem of no moral absolutes, and that God can command anything,
which makes all the religions out there listening to Gods command a
    bit sketchy :)
